The moon understood
From where she shone,
Demure, removed,
How sun's assertions
Tantalize and amaze.

Sandy intonations
Sift with the drifting beach,
Intrude, without intention,
All the hazy forenoon
And twilight after.

Striding into the eye,
A man stands half lit
Where time washes shore,
Covering, uncovering,
Ruddy wish and silvery fish.

He stands tonelessly,
Whistling nothing
Among the shifting grains,
Alert servant of the
Reverberant surf.
